Fall Harvest

Things are slowing down around here with the end of cross country.  I get my big girl home after school now.  She didn't want to try basketball.  Thing 2 started volleyball.  She only practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays and has games on Saturdays.  Last night we had fall concert for Thing 1. She plays trombone and sings in choir.  It's always so nice to hear them sing and play.

Two nights ago we had our first really hard frost.  Time to cut out all the mushy flowers and fill up the bird feeders.  I went for a walk yesterday morning and everything was glistening in the sun from the frost.  I stopped by the creek and listened to the leaves raining down from the trees.  It was just a really pretty "picture".  I really should have worn a hat!  Wow, was it chilly.

Here is a look at the garden on Tuesday evening before any frost had hit it.  It's in a sorry state now.  It's bitter sweet though.  Sad to see the growing season end, but kind of glad to let it rest.  The roof is on chicken coop and the cedar shingles are going up on the sides.  It's so pretty.  So thankful to have a husband that would build me a chicken coop of my dreams.  Guess I should expect that from the man of my dreams :)

We're working on painting my childhood dollhouse. It was never finished and I've been meaning to paint it for several years now. The girls are helping too. We've each taken a side and it's a really fun project to do together. Makes me want to get another one and put it together and work on it with them again. There are just some really gorgeous ones out there. Usually they are Victorian looking but at Hobby Lobby there is a craftsman style house. It has a huge front porch and a dormer on the front. It looks just like our second house.  Now I have to take care of my real house.  Ugh!  I hate house work.

I saw a frosty roof the other day and it made me a little bit colder. I'm slowly getting into the slowing down, hibernating mood. I so love this time of year. Have a great weekend!

It's nice your coop is next to your garden...
I'm envious of your dollhouse, I've spent a few times dreamy eyed in the Hobby Lobby dollhouse aisle. I'm glad it's getting colder, even though I'll be complaining about it soon enough.

What a great project to do with your girls! Will you show it to us when you are finished? Why is it that dollhouses are so much more fun to work on than real houses? Have a great weekend!

Your garden did really good this year! And I can't wait to see your doll house! I'm going back to look at your new banner. I like the way you put words here and there that help describe you blog...love, faith...chickens...books! It really looks good! ♥

I love that you and the girls are working on the doll house together. :-) I hope you will take some before and after pictures, so we can see the progress. I know what you mean about housework. I don't WANT to do the work, but I can't stand a messy house.

We had some pretty cold temps this week, but not for long enough for a plant killing frost. So you must have kept the coldest weather there instead of sending it east to me. (I know my son said that he jogged around campus one morning in 32ยบ temps.) All my herbs and outdoor potted plants are still blooming! Your broccoli and cabbage sure look wonderful! You must have the most healthy and wonderful meals at your house, with all that fresh produce available!

The hen house your DH built is amazing!! I think he is a keeper, for sure! In this crazy world, where so many couples don't last, it is really good to know that there are still a few (like you) out there that think of their marriage as a dream come true.
