Hi guys. I can't tell you this is going to be a regular thing again, but I've really been missing blogging lately. I miss all the comments and checking your blogs. It seems too special to just let it go completely. With so much going on I'm not sure where to begin. This semester is flying by. I'm already taking mid-terms next week. I've really felt like a new kid this semester. Like a fish out of water. I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb on campus. You get the idea. I've never been in a situation like this where I felt so conspicuous and out of place. So far, everything is going just fine. I'm naturally a very self-conscious person so this has been an uncomfortable time for me. It's getting better though. Yesterday, however, I drove clear to Manhattan (about 50 minutes driving time) for class and parked and realized I'd left my wallet at home! So, my $2.00 parking fare for my 1 1/2 hours on campus went up to $10.00 as they had to charge me for a "non-payment". Oh, well, I'll never forget my wallet again...right?

These beauties are Black Copper Marans. We bought them this winter. They were already laying when we got them. I think they're around a year old. The man we purchased them from shows chickens and these apparently didn't have the proper qualities for showing. They're very nice birds and made the transition into the flock very smoothly. None of our chickens are laying much these days.
However, now when we do get eggs, we get some of these:
Aren't they fabulous? I have always wanted these dark chocolate brown eggs in my cartons. Supposedly these will get even darker in the warmer seasons.
Hope to be back sooner this time!

Hey, it's good to hear from you! You should be so proud of yourself for going back to school to fulfill your dream. Be sure to wave if you see my son! :-)
Those eggs are so pretty! I've never seen any that color before.
Good morning Gem, you should be proud of yourself, returning to school is never easy. I commend you! Lovely new ladies you have, and those are certainly pretty brown eggs...Enjoy the weekend, Julie.
Jemm,
Go for it! I quit college in my first semester (to get married - big mistake). After I re-married, I went back to school at age 30. Then, of course, I had to cut back because I got pregnant with my daughter. When she was 10 months old, my mother-in-law watched her on Tues and Thurs while I took one class. Once she got into nursery school, I was able to take two classes a week! Finally, when she went to elementary school I was able to go back full time. I was 41 when I got my degree. I enjoyed every minute of my classes (some of the professors were younger than me by the time I finished!!!). Do not feel out-of-place - believe me, the younger students are intimidated by you - you bring maturity and life experience to your classes. Your participation raises the bar for the kids and makes them better students! Good luck!
WOW! Love the color of these eggs! Too pretty to crack them open almost... :)
Welcome back, I have missed my favorite Kansas friend.
Hope you are all staying warm. We are getting a mighty storm right now. It is to snow all day and night.
Love the post and chickens.
Susan
You should be proud! I feel proud for you!! Your wallet episode is the story of my life...
Love the hens and those dark eggs!
I'm thinking of raising meat birds-have you ever done that? I need advice!
Great to see an update Jemm! Wow, sounds like you are really stepping out of your comfort-zone, but "WAY TO GO!" There are some people that wouldn't even have the courage.
Yes, blogging is too special to completely let go. I have had 2 years worth of my blog made into a book recently, and it makes me what to blog even more. :-)
